Whatever Wednesday – Authors and Cyber PR – Good or Bad?
April 21st, 2010
Hey, everyone!! Hope you’re enjoying the gorgeous spring weather!
Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about cyber publicity. Especially in regards to how certain choices effects an author’s career. Personally, I’ve bought an author’s book after connecting on Facebook, Twitter, and/or after reading their blog. But, on the flip side, friends of mine have been turned off by an author and decided not to pick up their book after reading something on the Internet.
So, here’s my question.. Does cyber PR always help an author? Or can publicity sometimes hurt? And is spending a ton of time on cyber publicity worth it? Or does it all come down to the book?
Happy Wednesday!
GOOD question. I, too, have bought books because of author’s blogs. But there have been the occasional, “Hmm…don’t know if I’ll be buying any of her books”. LOL
I think you have to obvisouly watch what you say in cyberland but all in all it’s worth it, especially if you’re smart about it.
And having a good book certainly helps!!
I think it goes both ways… I love to connect with people, to see what they’re really like. But, that can be good and bad. You really, REALLY need to realize that what you say is public, which is why I tend to avoid the more controversial subjects on my blog (like politics and religion, even though I have very strong opinions on both).
